best episode ever?

"Stop hittin' yourself, Captain Kirk! Stop hittin' yourself! Stop letting a dwarf ride on top of you Captain Kirk! Stop letting a dwarf ride on top of you!"

This video of course is from "Plato's Stepchildren."

Podcast 11: Why So Humorous?

Notice: the last 30 minutes of this podcast is devoted to our discussion of The Dark Knight. We only discussed three episodes of Star Trek, but the podcast wound up being pretty long because of that. So since it has nothing to do with Star Trek, don't worry about that last half hour. On the other hand, our Batman conversation is probably a lot more engaging than our Star Trek conversation. Maybe you should ONLY listen to the last half hour. The choice is yours.

Podcast breakdown:

:00 -- Intro/announcements
8:17 -- "The Tholian Web"
21:55 -- "Plato's Stepchildren"
39:07 -- "Wink of an Eye"
59:50 -- Rankings
1.04:15 -- Outro/Dark Knight conversation

Rankings:

J.R.
4. "Plato's Stepchildren"
3. "The Tholian Web"
2. "Wink of an Eye"
1. "Plato's Stepchildren"
(Yes, the above ranking is correct)

Jon
3. "The Tholian Web"
2. "Wink of an Eye"
1. "Plato's Stepchildren"

Looks like we felt the same way this week.

Podcast 10: Kang and Cordless Phones

This week, despite the miracle of cordless communication, our major adversary was 15 minute battery life. J.R.'s continued annoyance with Season 3 Trek is another bad vibe worth mentioning. Perhaps the formless creature from "Day of the Dove" got to him. Another factor may be (as he reveals in podcast) that he did actually stare at the Medusan in "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" (bad idea).

Notes:

I cut J.R. off before he was able to plug his movie of the month club feature of his blog. Of course if you'd like to participate the address is royfillmore.blogspot.com

Did some quick research and discovered that Mark Lenard, the guy who plays Spock's dad, isn't actually younger than Leonard Nimoy, but is merely six years older.

While editing the podcast I'm kicking myself for not realizing a perfect joke regarding The Prime Directive and "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky." I could have said that The Prime Directive only applies to planets and not planetoids and then made some crack about the directive having no influence on Pluto because of its loss of planetary status. Please feel free to re-word that basic concept into a more humorous joke.
